Kriega R22 vs OGIO Mach 5: dry cargo or structured organization
Choose R22 when a waterproof main load is the deciding requirement. Choose the standard Mach 5 when its structured organization better matches the equipment you carry and you can provide appropriate rain protection. Their similar nominal capacity does not make them interchangeable.

Choose the job you need the bag to perform
An all-weather work journey and a trip involving a spare visor, shoes and small accessories can create different priorities even when the total load looks similar. Begin with the consequence of getting the choice wrong. If damp documents would interrupt your workday, dry storage deserves more weight. If you repeatedly unpack everything to find one accessory, internal organization may be the bigger daily frustration. This is a clearer way to decide than ranking the brands in the abstract.
The weather-protection distinction is specific
R22 has an 18-litre waterproof roll-top main section and a separate four-litre front pocket. OGIO calls the Mach 5 exterior water-resistant. Those are different claims. Do not treat the Kriega front pocket as sharing the main compartment's protection, or the OGIO shell as a sealed dry bag. Decide where the computer, documents and spare clothes will go before comparing convenience. Adding separate waterproof enclosures also changes the space and access you need inside the pack.

The Mach 5's visor sleeve and adjustable load divisions give specific equipment assigned places. That is a concrete reason to shortlist it if those items form your routine. Conversely, a load that mainly consists of clothing in a packing cube and one computer may not benefit much from multiple subdivisions. Try describing the first three things you remove at the destination. Then consider whether their intended locations let you reach them without disturbing everything else.
Your jacket and computer still need to fit
The R22 uses Quadloc-Lite; the Mach 5 uses OGIO's adjustable riding straps with sternum and hip straps. These designs justify trying both, but the specifications do not identify a universal comfort winner. Load each with the same weight and wear the same riding jacket. Check whether the fastenings are easy to operate, whether the load sits where you expect and whether the top of the bag limits helmet movement.
Likewise, verify the actual computer rather than using nominal luggage capacity as a proxy for laptop clearance. Include its case, charger and whatever else shares that part of the bag. Our conditional choice is R22 for a dry main load and Mach 5 for the specific organization it offers. Neither recommendation rests on a road test, comparative crash performance or an unverified claim that one design produces less drag on your motorcycle.
