For a useful comparison, decide how much room your largest ordinary load needs, then consider whether the additional expanded volume will be used frequently enough to matter.

A computer may settle the choice first

The MAX28 page specifies a waterproof laptop pocket for a maximum device size of 360 × 245mm. Roam34's page makes a 15-inch laptop claim but does not publish equivalent pocket measurements. Both need a fit check with the actual computer, especially when a protective case adds bulk. Do not assume the Roam's greater luggage capacity means its laptop pocket is larger. A roomy central compartment and a constrained computer opening can exist in the same bag.

Expansion is for cargo, not a waterproofing upgrade

These models combine a roll-top laptop section with zipped cargo and organizer areas. Their manufacturer-stated waterproof protection is specific to the laptop compartment. If you plan to bring a dry change of clothes, decide how you will protect it inside the remaining storage. The expandable section can be useful when bringing a helmet along after parking, but test your particular helmet and remaining load together. A statement that a bag can carry a full-face helmet is not a promise that every helmet will fit beside a full day's belongings.

Let the everyday routine break the tie

The Roam's waxed-cotton construction and sissy-bar strap give it reasons to exist beyond its larger number. The latter is relevant only if your motorcycle and intended mounting arrangement are suitable. Follow the supplied instructions and verify clearances rather than treating a backpack strap as a universal mounting solution. If you will always wear the pack, evaluate that feature accordingly.

For work-centered use, begin with computer fit, then check access to the items you handle repeatedly. For mixed errands, test the expanded load and where the added bulk sits against your back. Choose MAX28 if it covers those needs cleanly; choose Roam34 if its extra capacity or specific features solve a recurring problem. This recommendation is based on the published layouts, not a comparative durability or comfort test.
