Kriega MAX28: expandable cargo, separate dry laptop storage
The MAX28 combines a waterproof laptop compartment with expandable zipped cargo storage. It is an organized urban pack, but its waterproof laptop pocket should not be described as making the whole 28L bag waterproof.
The Roam 34 is an alternative expandable pack to compare if larger cargo flexibility matters more than the MAX28 layout. It has its own compartment protection and packing limits; it is not an offer for MAX28.

Read the numbers correctly
Kriega gives total capacity as 22–28L and empty weight as 1,850g. The current laptop-pocket specification is for a 15-inch device with a maximum stated footprint of 360 × 245mm, updated for 2021. The bag also has a fold-down organizer section, a Quadloc-Lite harness and a removable waist strap.
The main cargo section can expand for a full-face helmet or other bulky items. That is an accommodation claim, not a universal helmet fit guarantee. Older listings may contain earlier laptop-pocket details, so match the seller’s actual revision to the specification before ordering.
Start with the computer
Measure the laptop’s physical width and depth, including any case you intend to leave on it. Compare those dimensions with the pocket limit rather than the bag’s outside size. Thickness and corner shape still matter, so a physical fitting remains the better check when your computer is close to the stated boundary.
Then pack everything else without taking space away from the laptop closure. If papers or clothing also need dry protection, account for a separate enclosure around them. This is the step that determines whether the divided wet-weather arrangement is convenient for your particular commute.
Compare the options for this decision
Use expansion for a specific job
Ask what changes between your outbound and return journeys. A bag that carries office essentials one way and groceries the other can benefit from extra volume. If it will be fully expanded every day, compare the resulting shape and load against a bag designed around your normal capacity instead.
For off-bike helmet transport, try the exact helmet with any attached communication unit before relying on the fit. Check that it can be enclosed without stressing the zip or rubbing against hard cargo. Do not assume a photograph of one helmet establishes compatibility with yours.
The strongest reason to buy it
Choose the MAX28 when you value separate computer access and organized cargo enough to accept the more compartmentalized packing process. During a loaded fitting, inspect helmet clearance, shoulder movement and access to the pockets you use most. It is a better purchase when the organization solves real daily frustrations than when expansion is simply an attractive extra on the specification list.
