Kriega R22 vs R25 V2: a harness choice as well as a size choice

Confirm which R25 you are buying

Kriega's current global R25 page describes the redesigned waterproof model; the US distributor identifies it as R25 V2. Its storage is split into a 20-litre waterproof main compartment and a 5-litre quick-access pocket. Check the seller's photographs and description for that configuration. A listing with an older zip-open main compartment should not inherit the new model's waterproof claim simply because the title says R25. The comparison here is explicitly with the redesigned bag.

What the extra capacity actually buys

The R22 divides 22 litres into 18 litres of waterproof storage and a 4-litre front pocket. The new R25 therefore adds two litres to the dry section and one to the quick-access section. Think of that as extra packing margin, not a move into a different luggage class. If your present load already strains a similar-sized bag, assemble everything before choosing. A rigid lunch container or bulky pair of shoes can determine fit more strongly than the total litre number.

Try the two harnesses before assuming an upgrade

The full Quadloc harness on the R25 is the significant design distinction from the R22's Quadloc-Lite arrangement. Kriega positions the former for carrying heavier loads, but that does not prove it will be more comfortable on every torso. Try the bag with the weight you genuinely carry, while wearing your riding jacket. Check how the closure lies on your chest and whether you can reach the controls freely. A good fit with a light showroom load can hide pressure that appears when a computer and supplies are added.

Keep the purchase tied to the missing benefit

For an existing R22 owner, the useful question is what problem the R25 would solve. If the dry compartment is already adequate and the harness is comfortable, a model number alone offers little reason to change. If you want a different load-support arrangement or consistently need a little more packing room, the new R25 is a focused alternative.

For either bag, sort the load into items that must stay dry and items that can use the outer pocket. Check that the roll-top can close properly around your actual load rather than forcing the last item underneath it. Our preference depends on fit and this packing exercise; the published specification does not justify declaring either bag universally more comfortable.
