Laptop Fit Planner
Check a cased laptop in both flat orientations against usable sleeve dimensions and your chosen clearance.
Measure the laptop with its case and use the same unit for all six dimensions. Enter usable sleeve dimensions only—never substitute the backpack's exterior size. The calculator adds your clearance once to each laptop dimension.
After the calculation, follow the physical fit procedure and test the complete commuter load.
Work through a cased-device example
For a worked example, enter a cased laptop measuring 32cm wide, 22cm high and 2cm thick. Enter a usable sleeve measuring 33cm by 23cm with 3cm of depth, and choose 0.5cm extra allowance. The calculation compares 32.5 × 22.5 × 2.5cm against the sleeve; these dimensions pass in the entered orientation.
The allowance is added once to each dimension, not once on each side. A 0.5cm entry therefore adds 0.5cm to the width, rather than a full centimeter. It is your chosen allowance, not a manufacturer-approved clearance. Use centimeters consistently across every input and measure the protective case you will actually carry.
The alternative orientation swaps width and height while leaving thickness unchanged. A rotated result is only useful if the real opening lets you insert the device that way. The planner does not tilt the laptop diagonally, compress padding or model curved corners.
A numerical pass still needs a physical check. Seams, a narrow opening and roll-top closure space can prevent insertion or closing. Pack the charger, lunch and other commuting items too, ensuring none presses a hard edge against the computer. If sleeve depth or opening dimensions are unavailable, ask for them rather than entering the backpack’s exterior measurements.
