Capacity Converter
Convert liters, US gallons and cubic inches without assuming usable packing space.
Translate the label without mistaking it for usable space
Enter the stated volume, choose its original unit and select the unit you want to see. The available gallon unit is US gallons, not imperial gallons. This distinction matters when comparing listings from different markets; first establish which gallon definition the source uses.
For example, 20 liters converts to approximately 5.283 US gallons or 1,220.475 cubic inches. These are different expressions of the same volume. A larger-looking cubic-inch number does not describe a larger backpack, and converting a figure does not independently verify the manufacturer’s capacity measurement.
Apply conversions to a clearly identified compartment. If a pack has 18L of waterproof main storage and a separate 4L pocket, convert 18L when estimating the stated dry-storage volume. Converting the 22L total will not make the separate pocket waterproof. Likewise, an expanded capacity describes a different configuration from the unexpanded pack.
The result cannot establish whether a rigid lunch container, cased laptop or helmet fits. Two compartments with equal volume can have different openings, depths and internal shapes. Use the converted number to compare capacity labels, then check the largest objects against usable dimensions and the space needed to close the bag. For a laptop, the dimensional planner is the relevant next step; for mixed cargo, a realistic packing trial remains necessary.
